Cairngorms Winter Filming | Adventure Filmmaker Scotland

In December we were enjoying our favourite role of being an adventure filmmaker, filming for a short film in the Cairngorms  for adventure website Weeventure.adventure filmmaker glenshee winter scotlandcamera operator editor scotland Logistically it was tricky, as the roads were pretty bad and therefore we started out on foot into the hills well after daybreak. But as soon as we got out into the hills the conditions rewarded endeavour. Blue skies and crisp snow, preserved by a temperature in the region of -14c.simmerdim filmsI kept the rig light, with a Canon DSLR mounted on a Laing steadicam. The logic was that if I needed a standing support, such as a tripod, I could bury the foot of the steadicam in the snow. It never came to that, as it was too cold to spend much time standing about. Such are the trials and tribulations of  such an adventure to a filmmaker. The camera had a few issues with the temperature but in the end, the quality of the light meant that there was a surfeit of shots to be had. The other lesson learnt is that no matter how good your stabiliser system, when you are wading through huge tussocks of snow covered heather, the footage will look like its been shot by a drunk man. We'll share the edit here soon but in the meantime, if you'd like to chat to us about your adventure film, get in touch today.steadicam operator adventure film rob waugh filmmaker simmerdim
